Glengowla Family Farm Experience & Silver Mines (1st April - 31st October) Look forward to visiting Glengowla Family Farm Experience and Show Mines in Oughterard, Connemara. Historically, both silver and lead were mined here until 1865. Some of the lead was used to produce ammunition for both the Crimean War of the 1850s (present day Ukraine) and the American Civil War of the 1860s. Once you view the underground marble show caves (still studded with silver and lead) you can pan for precious metal and rare stones at the panning station - and keep any gems that you find (which would make for a cool souvenir or jewelry)! Above ground, you can enjoy the Family Farm Experience. Enjoy a leisurely farm walk to view the animals (including lambs in season), sheepdog demonstrations and learn about how turf is cut as per tradition - before trying yourself! Your Entrance fee is included in the price of your tour ticket! Please note that Glengowla is closed on Sundays and the time will be allocated elsewhere to maximize your experience depending on weather etc.

On clear days spot the Gaelic speaking Aran Islands off the coast as we pass the port at Rossaveal and then on to Gaelic speaking Spiddle (an Spideal) on the outskirts of Galway.
